AE102- Advanced Audio Engineering

Subject Description : AE102 will teach students advanced Equalization,Compression, and other effects. Students will be mixing songs in a studio setting with live instrumentation using a digital console. Students will learn microphone placement and advanced headphone mixing techniques while recording live in Studio A. Students will also learn how to mic acoustic guitars, guitar amps, bass, percussion and several other live instruments. Students will be tested on ear training during sessions. AE102 places an emphasis on dealing with client needs. Student will gain experience in this area by working live with vocalists and drummers. In this course, students are asked to work with AIT in-house artists on specific songs.Student will start to create an example “reel” of their work.

Weeks : Two-week course, weeks 7-8 of six-month program
Performance Objectives : By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1) Navigate advanced plug-ins, outboard EQ, and Compressors
2) Equalize and Compress within Pro Tools
3) Create advanced headphones mixes for clients and self
4) Record a live session with little assistance from instructor
5) Adequately mic guitar amps, acoustic guitars, drums, keyboards, and other instruments
6) Prepare sound booth and microphones for vocalist.

Cost : Included in six-month program, total $12,000
Days/Times : Tuesdays, Thursdays 1 PM – 4 PM, 2 labs to be scheduled on weekly basis with instructor, 2 hours each
