MX101- Introduction to Mixing

Subject Description : Introduction to Mixing focuses mainly on mixing equalization and compression and using effects within a mix correctly. Students will mix various styles of songs in a studio setting with a focus on industry mixing standards. Students will be assigned specific songs to mix. Student will learn correct mix formats, file formats, standards for Itunes, and other online sales companies’ requirements.
Classroom : Recording Studio B
Maximum Instructor/Student Ratio : 7:1
Weeks : Two-week course, weeks 9-10 of six-month program
Performance Objectives : At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1) Mix adequately to meet industry standards
2) Understand industry standard file management
3) Recognize EQ and the correct uses of effects
4) Equalize and Compress a mix.
Contact Hours : 20 Contact Hours, 10 per week including labs
Cost : Included in six-month program, total $12,000
Days/Times : Tuesdays, Thursdays 1 PM – 4 PM, 2 labs to be scheduled on weekly basis with instructor, 2 hours each
